The early-20th-century mansion of banker Andrei Pommer, in the middle of the largest dendrological park in Bessarabia. Worth it for the old Eastern-European architecture among century-old trees — come for the park and the manor together, not for restored interiors.
The former estate of Andrei Pommer, an Odessa banker who rose to head the Russian Foreign Trade Bank in St. Petersburg, built in the early 20th century at the heart of what was once Bessarabia's largest park. Wander among century-old trees to discover Eastern European architecture, Russian-style annexes, and a small aviary with birds you can feed if you bring grain. Access is free but infrastructure is minimal—no functioning museum, restaurant, or guides. Buildings are mostly closed, viewable only from the outside. The park itself is peaceful and shaded, perfect for a summer stroll or picnic. Bring water, sandwiches, and birdseed. This is a heritage site for architecture lovers and those drawn to the melancholy beauty of abandoned estates. Worth a detour if you're traveling through the north, but not a stand-alone destination from Chișinău unless you're passionate about early 20th-century manors and the layered history of Bessarabia.
