Lake Manta · Lacul Manta
Floodplain lake on the Prut, a bird paradise — over 220 species recorded.
Sunrise birdwatching session with a local guide from Manta village.
You can skip it unless you're specifically into birdwatching — it's an alluvial lake on the Prut, part of the Lower Prut wetlands where dozens of bird species have been recorded, ideal for a dawn birding session with a local guide. For most other tourists it isn't a priority.
Lake Manta stretches near Manta village, north of Cahul, forming together with Beleu the lake system of the Lower Prut. It is less spectacular than Beleu as scenery, but ornithologically much richer — over 220 bird species have been identified here, including Dalmatian pelicans, wintering swans, and egrets. Open access from the village shore; for serious birdwatching, local guides can arrange early-morning outings. Pair the visit with the craft workshops in Manta (Burcă leather, Grigoriță textile).
