Worth it if you want rare nature: lakes, floodplain, reedbeds and wetland birds, with a guided tour along the "Petru Rareș Trail" and observation platforms. A change from the classic routes.
The Prutul de Jos Reserve is Moldova's only site included in the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere world network (since 2018). It covers 14,770 ha in the Prut-Danube confluence zone, including lakes Beleu and Manta, the floodplain, and villages with living traditions. The administration is based in Slobozia Mare — from there you contact guides and get permission for guided routes, including "Petru Rareș's Path" (9 km through reedbeds and willows) and the observation platforms. You pay a symbolic guide fee, but the map and routes are not yet well signposted — best to contact the administration at least a week ahead.
