A Gagauzia winery (Tomai) with cellars founded in 1903 — local varieties and Gagauz tradition.
Wine + Gagauz platter (rare cultural pairing).
Worth it on a Gagauzia tour — a winery with 1903 cellars near Comrat, with local varieties and its own lines (1903, Gold Bugeac, De Tomai). Pairs naturally with a stop in Comrat.
Tomai Winery is in the village of Tomai (Gagauzia, near Comrat, southern Moldova), with famous cellars founded in 1903 by the landowner Georgy Topchu. It grows varieties on the sunny southern steppe slopes and has grown from a wine factory into an international exporter under the TOMAI brand. “I had the pleasure of visiting this lovely place with my family and met the owner during a trip. I was surprised how welcoming and friendly were people I've met there. The wine is impeccable, food tasteful and delicious. One year later since my visit, two bottles of Busuioca & Shardone wine still rest in my house awaiting for the right moment... that's the last one.”
“First of all, greetings, I have had the chance to taste wine in many countries around the world. The one I have tasted recently and the one with the most character in my 45 years of life is the 2006 Tomaı dry Cabernet. I had tasted a Sicilia Carricante 12 years ago, but it was not this touching. Thank you for your efforts, may your path be clear. Thank you.”
