Codri Nature Reserve protects 5,177 hectares of virgin temperate forest, with oak and beech trees over 300 years old. Marked trails lead through shaded valleys, glades with wild boar in naturalized enclosures, and rolling hillsides that show what Moldova looked like before intensive agriculture. In spring, the forest floor bursts with purple flowers pushing through melting snow; in autumn, the foliage turns to russet-gold mosaics. Ideal for half-day hikes and wilderness picnics, especially in spring and fall when temperatures are pleasant and the forest is at its peak. Access requires permission from the administration office—check ahead to avoid issues at entry points.
