Lake Beleu · Lacul Beleu
Moldova's largest natural lake — white water lilies, yellow water lilies, rare birds.
Boat outing through reedbeds with bird-watching pause at the water-lily carpet.
Yes — a sprawling wetland on the Prut floodplain, with wild water lilies and migratory birds. The boat ride through the reeds to the carpet of lilies is the unforgettable moment.
Lake Beleu (5 km²) is the heart of the Prutul de Jos Biosphere Reserve — a floodplain lake fed by the Prut River where summer brings a carpet of white and yellow water lilies, and spring/autumn turn it into a major stopover for migrating birds. Access is from Slobozia Mare village; boat outings through the reedbeds need to be booked in advance with the reserve administration or partner guest houses (Potcoava Verde, Eco-Village Văleni). A quiet place for people who want to listen to the reeds and photograph birds — no built-up terraces.
- wild and untouched
- stunning lily carpet
- great for nature photography
- feels like Animal Planet
- yellow lilies at sunrise
- low boat angle through tall reeds
- heron silhouette on golden water

When it feels like there's nothing left to see in Moldova, take a deep breath, get in the car and head south. To Slobozia-Mare.
