Ghidighici Lake (officially «Ghidighici Hydrotechnical Reservoir») is the largest artificial lake near Chișinău — 1100 ha of water created in 1962 by damming the Bîc river for flood protection and industrial water supply to the capital. Today it is the favourite weekend escape destination 15 km from centre: wild public beaches on the north shore (Ghidighici, Truşeni — free, no facilities), boutique beaches with pontoons and sauna (near Weekend Boutique Hotel), authorised fishing (carp, crucian, catfish, perch — permit from AAH required), water sports (windsurf, paddleboard, jet-ski rentals in summer). Water is clean, transparent, but relatively cool even in summer. Next to the lake — Ghidighici forest (300 ha oak forest for hiking, MTB cycling, birdwatching — 80+ bird species, especially waterfowl).
